Yes, you can absolutely foster as a single person. In fact, single foster carers are highly valued — they often bring dedication, flexibility, and the ability to give a child undivided attention.
A significant proportion of foster carers in the UK are single — agencies actively recruit single applicants and many find they bring unique strengths to the role.
The requirements are the same whether you're single, married, or in a partnership:
"Can I work and foster alone?" — Yes. Many single foster carers work, especially with school-age children. Some do respite fostering, which is more flexible.
"Will I get enough support?" — All foster carers get a dedicated supervising social worker, 24/7 helplines, and peer support groups. Good agencies provide additional support for single carers.

FosterReady is not a fostering agency. We're an independent platform built to help solve the UK's fostering crisis — with over 83,000 children in care and not enough foster families to support them.
Our training, guides, and tools are completely free and always will be. Whether you're seriously considering fostering or just curious about what's involved, you can explore everything at your own pace — no sign-up required, no sales calls, no pressure.
If you decide it's right for you, we can help connect you with Ofsted-registered agencies in your area. But that's your decision, on your timeline.
